Great service and atmosphere. Received our food quickly and great quality. French toast was light and fluffy, delicious bacon, and great breakfast special as well. Also enjoyed the smoothies! Will definitely make it a regular choice for a nice and quick weekend breakfast.
Really nice place for an amazing brunch and delicious coffee!! They also do take away lunch. The Spicer&Cole breakfast is the perfect choice... the baked potatoes are so tasty and, for me, much better option than beans 😋. I would've left a 5-start review if it wasn't because a friend of mine doesn't like poached eggs so he asked for scrambled eggs instead and they didn't do it...something that never has happened in other brunch places 🤔.
We decided to go out for Sunday Brunch as it was going to be a busy day. So we ended up at the bottom of Gloucester Rd where we knew there was a choice of venues with outdoor seating. My partners found a table outside whilst I went in search of some Menu’s. Seating looked pretty with matching iron table and chairs but they were less than comfortable and the seat’s definitely needed some padding. We had a quick scan of the breakfast options and the few specials on the board inside the door. My Partner settled on the poached eggs on sour dough £5.25 and I went for the full breakfast £9.25 (which is quite expensive) and I went and joined the queue at the counter to place our order. It took a while to get to the front of the queue as people were ordering all sorts of smoothies and other complicated items that seemed to required far more attention from the staff than a Bacon Buttie, so by the time I got to the front of the line I was a bit frazzled. As a result I ordered two Espresso’s £2 each (rather than the Americano’s we wanted) and when I realised my mistake I had to force my way to the front of the queue and get it changed. To their credit, they only charged for the Espresso’s which were 60 pence cheaper. Eventually I returned to the table with a wooden spoon with our number on it. Then I realised we needed cutlery and some sauce so I made another trip back inside to collect everything we needed. By the time the Coffee’s arrived I was less than chilled, in fact I was roasting. Our choice of a table in the sun was a school boy error as it was way too hot to eat, so we picked everything up and nabbed a table indoor’s. Then we waited. We waited well over half an hour. (About 37 Minutes in total). On the plus side, the food was (hopefully) freshly cooked but on the flip side we had long run out of coffee and we were getting restless. There were no papers available and the seating was at best functional so a long wait wasn’t relaxing. Eventually the food came and to be fair it looked good. The Egg’s on Toast looked interesting with its green sauce but she wasn’t best pleased with the egg’s which she felt were over cooked in that the yolk was only runny right in the middle. Mine were exactly the same so I’m wondering if this is how they plan to serve them? The Sour Dough Toast just doesn’t do it for me. Its always way to brittle and takes far too much energy to cut and dice. I decided to cut the crust off completely which meant there was very little toast remaining. The sausage was good, plump and tasty and there were two slices of bacon though they were dried out (rather than cooked crispy) like they’d been kept warm and I couldn’t tell if they were smoked or not ? Tomatoes were fresh and on the vine, though this made little difference to their taste. The fried potato was good and the Mushrooms were big fellas, sliced and cooked nicely but black in colour? So, after an excessively long wait we weren’t overly excited by the food (though I can see how this style of food would appeal to some). The table of four young people next to us seemed perfectly happy with their meal and the service, even though their dishes weren’t brought out together. Spicer and Cole make a big play about their Coffee but to me (I’m not really a Coffee drinker preferring Tea any day of the week) it was just too bitter and I like my tea/coffee with my meal. In this case it was just a memory by the time the food arrived. Service was pretty much non existent as you do most of the work yourself and no one came to ask us if “everything was alright”, which even the simplest of Cafe’s do these day’s. With the total bill coming in at £18.50 including Vat, it was top end and I would expect much more for my money than they offered. I won’t return in a hurry, there are just too many good Cafe’s around and they offer better value for money. Sorry Guys, you missed a trick here.
Had their homemade granola, it was lovely, but very heavy on yoghurt Vs granola, would've personally preferred the ratio to be the other way around. Gorgeous texture though. We also had lovely coffees, and sandwiches. The service was great, polite and efficient.
Honestly one of the tastiest breakfasts ever. I had the breakfast special of pulled pork egg hollandaise (it was much fancier). Tasty coffee too and quick service.
