Pre-lock-down experience: I am mixed race. This salon claims to do curly hair, which I have (not afro hair). However the junior assistants looked horrified when a woman of colour turned up. They proceeded to make a scene, and said I would have to make an appointment with the top stylist (most expensive). Lack of diversity awareness was outstanding. Manager did reach out but did not address this embarrassing issues sufficiently.
I was so fortunate to have an appointment with Nuala herself and it was an experience that I wanted to share for anyone looking to have their hair truly shine. During lockdown I had become obsessed with Nuala’s Instagram page and the incredible work shown, especially the before and after. If you haven’t been on there I highly recommend you take a look (nualamoreysalon) I couldn’t wait for her to get her hands on my hair and it was definitely worth the wait. The whole experience was truly amazing. To start, Nuala examined my hair and just got it straight away. For a curly girl who has been transitioning for over 2 years, trying to work out what works and doesn’t work for my hair and trying every product doing so definitely takes commitment. It was so comforting talking to Nuala who has so much knowledge and understanding that I immediately felt at ease, so much so I completely trusted Nuala to do what she thought was best for my hair when it came to the colour and the cut, which is something I have never been able to do. Nuala was completely honest and transparent with me, as I was having a some of the length taken off for the benefit of the hair and the incredible cut I was about to have. Next for the colour, Nuala knew exactly what colours would work to correct the colour and more importantly what would suit my colouring and be safe for my hair. Throughout the whole appointment Nuala educated me on products and application, I was so truly grateful for all the knowledge she shared with me. The time and dedication Nuala gave me was incredible and I couldn’t believe the results, it is honestly the first time I have been truly so happy and loved my hair. Nuala and her team were so lovely and I feel so grateful to have had the experience I have had. Nuala is a Curl Queen and her work is so incredible, I can not recommend Nuala enough and I am so thankful for everything she has done for me. Thank you so much to the wonderful Nuala and her lovely team xx
I had my first ever curly cut at Nuala's salon and I was so impressed! Georgia did a wonderful job and gave me the type of curls I could only dream of before! I was completely reassured by their social distancing measures and was comfortable to see all staff and other customers following the guidelines. I really can't thank all of the staff enough for how much better my hair looks and feels. I will definitely be returning!
I had my hair cut here and honestly I wasn't happy with it. The cut isn't great. I asked for layering throughout the hair to try and lift my curls and to take the weight off the ends. I ended up with no layering throughout, just on the top so underneath still looks like it did before I went in. Admittedly, I had previously cut my own hair months before so the stylist spent a while trying to even out the top section, but any layering underneath was missed. They also cut off a lot of the length which I specifically said I wanted to keep as I've been growing my hair out for 2 years. So I wasn't best pleased when over 3 inches of my curly hair was cut, never mind the length when I pulled it straight. I also felt very intimidated when being in the salon - I can't really say why, but I felt very uncomfortable for my visit. There wasn't much of a happy or welcoming atmosphere which I don't think helps when people could be nervous visiting in these current times. I am now trying to find somewhere else to have it cut in a few months time as I wouldn't go back. The reason my review is 3 stars and not lower is because I did like how the stylist was trying to explain how to use and apply products to get the best results, but I left feeling disappointed with the service and definitely wasn't worth the 150 mile trip or £100 cost. **Added note** I am very thankful that Nuala called me after noticing the review to apologise for how I felt about my visit. I was offered to come in to try and sort out the problems but unfortunately it is just a bit far for me to travel again. I appreciate the concern and maybe will return again in the future if I am travelling near Bristol to review my thoughts on the place.
Just a fantastic cut for my fine, curly hair, Georgina has brought out the best in me!!! And they did a good job making all the social distancing stuff as comfortable as possible. On the pricey side, but worth it.
