I was greeted by a sweet elderly man who was very happy to repair my watch with a new bracelet that I provided. I gave him the watch with the original broken bracelet that was still attached at either end of the dial. 24 hours later I came to pick it up and he said he couldn’t do it. He said I needed to ask the maker of the new bracelet for an additional piece but the man here had lost the original component and thus was not able to fit the watch. I politely said to him you have lost the piece that I brought to him attached to the watch. He denied this… but how could I have lost it myself when I brought the watch with the original bracelet attached! The bloke then turned very deflecting and quite rude. Regardless of his damaged eyesight, he should be more careful. I’m not happy with this, although I do sympathize for the elderly gentleman who’s clearly had decades of experience. The problem now is that I have to order the part from Tokyo which takes a whole month. Frustrated is an understatement.
Mr Ford is so lovely and helpful. He might even tell you about Shirley Bassey if you’re lucky.
Such a pleasure to get my batteries changed here, I only wish I’d known about Ken and this shop sooner. Nothing but admiration and respect for the man. Full of character and knowledge of his craft. When I left I was actually sad that this type of shop keeper barely exists anymore. His rates are more than reasonable, I don’t think he charges enough really but that is testament to his character and love of the job. Anyone with negative reviews should be happy to take their watch’s to a soulless company and get shafted at the till!
I have been going to KW Fords for over 10 years for watch repair battery changes etc. They are an older style retail unit, he goes out for lunch so sometimes the shop is closed, he talks to his customers. I have only ever found him really knowledgable and helpful, if you want your watch back from a repair tomorrow then don't use him, if you are happy to wait for a personal service and great value then go ahead! He changes batteries there and then.
