I had such a lovely time at The Deck Cafe and Restaurant. It’s this really nice, cute spot that feels super peaceful the moment you step inside. The staff were all friendly and made me feel really welcome which always makes a big difference. I tried their Hungarian crepe with chocolate sauce and honestly it was amazing. The crepe itself was fluffy and soft with just the right amount of powdery taste that wasn’t overpowering. The chocolate sauce was rich and smooth, coating the crepe perfectly without being too heavy. It was just a lovely balance that made every bite a delight. I also had their chocolate mousse and wow it was next level. The mousse was incredibly rich and creamy but still light enough to not feel too heavy. It had this deep chocolate flavor that was intense without being bitter, and the texture was so silky and smooth it just melted in my mouth. You could tell they really paid attention to the details to get that perfect consistency and flavor. To wash it all down I went with a citrus lemonade which was super refreshing. It had a nice zesty tang that really woke up my taste buds and was perfect for clearing the palate between bites. My mum got a green tea and she was really happy with it too, said it was very nice and comforting. All in all I would definitely give this place a 5 out of 5. The vibe, the food, and the staff were all spot on. Can’t wait to come back.
I had a very disappointing experience at Deck Cafe today. My partner and I both ordered dishes with avocado and chicken. When the dishes arrived, I noticed the avocado contained coriander, which wasn't listed anywhere on the menu. My partner (no allergy) was already eating the dish, but I informed the waitress of my coriander allergy, who took my plate away without saying a word to prepare a new one. What happened next was extremely frustrating and unacceptable. When we paid the bill, we noticed an UNEXPLAINED extra charge. Only after asking for an itemized receipt did we find out they added an extra charge for remaking the dish WITHOUT mentioning it. When I asked about it, the waitress Timi said it was because they had to throw away the original plate. I pointed out that my partner, who doesn't have an allergy and was already eating a similar dish, could have taken the original dish if we'd been told about the charge. Timi's response was that we should have asked to keep the original plate. I felt this was an unreasonable request since no UK restaurant charges extra for remaking a dish due to an allergen, or at least would inform the customer of extra charges so they could make that decision. I asked for the extra charge to be removed, but she refused and RUDELY BLAMED us for not asking to keep the original plate. The lack of transparency, poor communication, and dismissive attitude was UNACCEPTABLE and left us feeling taken advantage of. I will leave reviews on other platform too in warning others of our experience and file a formal complaint through Citizens Advice / Bristol Trading Standard.
Perfect breakfast, soft poached eggs and the mushrooms and cherry tomatoes were roasted - great flavour. Range of healthy juices and also Hungarian specials, definitely will return. Fantastic poached eggs with bacon on toast.
I’m the partner mentioned in the previous review and completely agree that our experience was mishandled in an unprofessional and deeply disappointing way. You (the owner Timi) made a mistake but refuse to acknowledge it. To me, you are *actively dismissing valid concerns* from your customers. Key points: 1. It’s *simply unethical* to add a charge without informing your customer. You did not ask if I wanted a receipt after I paid. I had to ask for it. You took advantage of me by sneaking in this extra charge this way. 2. Charging for remaking an order due to an allergen (especially one not disclosed) is not standard practice. If you do charge though, you *must* communicate this. It does not make sense for a customer to “ask to keep the dish” when they are *not informed* there would be additional charges. 3. We pointed out the allergen immediately after the dish arrived since it wasn’t listed on the menu. You did not ask about allergies when ordering, and we cannot know what ingredients you’d use in your dishes. I’m sharing this so others can see that when a customer raises a legitimate concern, the restaurant’s response is overly defensive and disdainful.
Had their today’s special was really lovely. Just a reminder that the portions are quite big if you don’t usually eat a lot they do serve small portions (some of the items) Staff are very friendly and food served quite quickly.
